Argonauta Records’ Abrasive Trees Headline “Under The Turning Light” Event At Colchester Arts Centre
Abrasive Trees bring their brooding, immersive post-rock to Colchester Arts Centre on Friday 27th March, headlining a carefully curated night of dark-ambient atmospheres and slow-burning intensity.
The show arrives at a pivotal moment for the band, following the announcement of a fresh new single and video - ‘Carved Skull’, and ahead of a full-length album landing in May via Italian dark-rock label Argonauta Records. Featuring former members of Silver Moth, Abrasive Trees will use the Colchester date as a glimpse of what’s next: darker edges, wider dynamics, and material shaped for close quarters. Led by an Anglo-Indian/Scottish songwriter Matthew Rochford and anchored by a formidable rhythm section, Abrasive Trees continue to carve out a sound that feels both intimate and expansive — rooted in the UK underground while reaching outward into the wider European scene.
An incredible line-up also features Rothko, whose pioneering, experimental sound has seen them appear on labels such as Bella Union and Lo Recordings since they were formed by Mark Beazley in the late 90’s.Mark has crafted a distinctive niche in the music world since then and has become known for an evocative and atmospheric sound built primarily around the bass guitar. Rothko's music defies easy categorization, weaving dark textures with intricate, chiming bass melodies. Over his expansive career, Beazley's contributions have spanned various collaborations and solo works, consistently pushing creative boundaries.
Completing the programme are Strandings - an experimental solo electronics projects from Dead Rat Orchestra member Robin Alderton, plus local ambient drone warlords Vaahl.
