CoCo and the Butterfields sprang to life in September 2011 as a humble folk trio. Nowadays they’re more accurately described as a five-strong major kick on the South East music scene, a truly colourful, energetic & crowd-stamping act to be reckoned with, performing their own unique fusion of Folk, Pop and Hip Hop, or “Fip Fok” to their fans. Within a year CATB had earnt themselves the title of the UK’s best unsigned act, collecting several more song writing awards, 250,000 YouTube hits and shared a stage with internationally reknowned artists King Charles, Bastille and The Pogues.
From busking in their hometown, Canterbury, to headlining Rome's largest unsigned music festival, CATB's fresh sound and raw energy on stage has rapidly gained them a large and loyal following, making them one of the UK's top up-and-coming bands to watch out for.
CoCo and the Butterfields is about a collection, and when you put all the pieces together the result is extraordinary. CoCo's lyrics and guitar melodies give character to beautiful and hard-hitting songs alike, while Dulcima captivates audiences with her vocals, violin and homemade dresses. Jamie (aka "Euphex") delivers rhythmns on beatbox with Micah holding the line on Double Bass, with Handsome Rob, a banjo sensation. The Butterfields eminent creativity, distinctive personalities are the bedrock for their unique musical style. In the words of Record Producer Dan Lucas, they've "managed the almost impossible task of creating a sound that is almost entirely unique."
The band regards their work as breaking down music stereotypes and uniting listeners over the essential part of the music they play. Having performed to many thousands of people throughout the UK in 2012, and packing out their shows from the very beginning, CoCo and the Butterfields are still regularly spotted busking around the South East. From the pavement to the arena, CATB are more than just fantastic musicians – they are seasoned performers. Their music is powerfully spellbinding; it gets the crowd on their feet and keeps them there. Following the successful release of their debut EP, Fip Fok, CATB filled 1,200 seats at a sell out show at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre where the new single Warriors launched on May 5th 2013.
