By Lee Wilson, an (almost) founder member of the band, and the founder of BandBase.
Rubber Biscuit was a Soul and Rhythm 'n' Blues band from Whitstable, Kent. It began in 1992 as a tribute to The Blues Brothers and The Commitments (immortalised by films of the same names).
With 18 members strong, they planned to do just a handful of gigs and to finish with a show at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury.
This all went to plan with the exception of the final gig, which didn't happen until some 33 years later. After what should have been the last show, the band continued to receive bookings, and quickly became the "go-to" band for countless weddings, parties, and large public shows, including several more sell-out shows at the Marlowe.
Many personnel changes happened over the years. Some original members are sadly no longer with us, and only one original member made it through all 35 years!
The band was the jumping point for so many local musicians to form their own bands. Some ex-members have made it their career, and tour the world with huge stars.
In the autumn of 2025, Rubber Biscuit took a final bow, and played two sell-out gigs to their die-hard fans.
I left the band some time ago, but continue to gig alongside original member Miles in The Miles Cookman Band. Like lots of people that played for Rubber Biscuit, it was a privilege and we had a lot of fun.
We're (mostly) all still friends, which is a testimony to something, whatever that is. But it's brilliant, and I'd do it all over again if I could.
