Born May 13th 1980 Dudley was brought up in an extremely musical family. At the age of seven he began to learn his first instrument; the cello. From a very early age Dudley had a natural gravitation towards the electric guitar. However, it was not until his sixteenth birthday that he was given the opportunity to learn the guitar and from that point on he has never put it down. Having spent many years learning the cello, Dudley’s progress on the guitar was extremely quick and within a year he was playing pieces that were beyond the expectations of anyone playing for such a short time. Surrounded by classical, rock, jazz and world music Dudley absorbed many different influences, which is evident in his playing and composing style.
After a few years annoying his neighbours, family and friends with persistent practice Dudley decided he wanted to study music, with the view of furthering his career as a musician. Dudley attended Christchurch University, Canterbury were he graduated with a degree in Music BA (hons). He specialized in jazz, composition and performance and excelled in all. After graduating from Christchurch, Dudley was offered a teaching position at the university and is still teaching there after three years.
