If you were not at The Brewer’s Arms on Saturday 3rd March then you missed a treat.
The live band on the night “TOPGUNS” certainly were just that! A top notch 80’s rock cover band who were at the top of their game throughout their set with songs from Bryan Adams to Whitesnake and all the 80’s favourite anthems in between, complete with smoke , lights and posing that befitted the era of that style of rock music.
Considering that the 80’s era was male rock orientated the female lead singer Emma was superb on vocals giving an outstanding display of vocal dexterity throughout.
The lead guitarist considering “TOPGUNS” covered bands with legendary lead guitarists like Eddie Van Halen, Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi and Barry Goudreau of Boston amongst others was absolutely spot on. His solo on Michael Jackson’s – Beat it, was as good as it gets! With other solo’s throughout the set keeping up the standard.
The drummer, resplendent in red PVC and standard 80’s curly rock star wig treated the crowd to a Cozy Powell style drum solo which was high energy! Not only one but was persuaded to perform a second drum solo towards the end of the set which was at least as energetic as the first and well worthy of the “animal” mascot on the front of the drum kit.
Keyboards and Bass guitar completed the ensemble with each providing their own pieces of 80’s rock posturing and high end musicianship adding admirably to the overall sound.
Apart from the bands already mentioned above the set list included numbers from Queen, Blondie, The Human League, Survivor, Toto, Belinda Carlisle, Heart, Cher, Starship, Kiss, Tina Turner and Rainbow amongst others.
The set started at a pace which amazingly was kept up throughout and still managed to build to a crescendo which left the crowd calling for more. “TOPGUNS” duly obliged beginning with the second drum solo and then, smoke, lights and a fitting rock anthem finale - Europe’s Final Countdown.
“TOPGUNS” will no doubt make a triumphant return to The Brewer’s in the future and I would strongly recommend that you make the time to be there when they do!
A great night, great music and great fun…..what more could you want?
