The "Kingsdown Band" was formed when Terry Poulson & Roger Cramphorn met at a Kingsdown School function in 1989 and discovered that they had both played through the 60's and notably, both performed at the legendary "Top Ten Club" and "Star Club" in Hamburg during that period.
Although Roger had continued to play during the 70's and 80's, Terry had not played seriously for 24 years, but it seemed like a good idea to get together. Two other members were added, and a four piece 60's band was formed for fun.
When the band inevitably started gigging, the name "The Kingsdown Band" was the obvious choice, as 3 of the four guys lived in Kingsdown Village. We were fortunate to live in the Deal area, as there were several excellent brass musicians in the area, having settled here when they left the Royal Marines, and so, a few years later, Andy Cunningham, Mick Murray and Tony Willis, were recruited to form a 3 piece brass section.
After several personnel changes along the way, we now have probably the best line up that "The Kingsdown Band" has ever had and our numbers have swelled to 12 musicians. In this respect, we welcome our latest recruits, Jaeger Grace Jones and Marianne "Mazz" Rhodes, both superb female vocalists, and also Danny Herbert (also on vocals) plus our star of the show, Simon Foster, who is a current member of the "Flying Pickets" and sings with us when he's not touring with them.
Both Terry & Roger are still with the band and , having just celebrated 20 years since our formation, are now looking forward to the future with even more enthusiasm.
