The Broadstairs Blues Bash is a vibrant annual celebration of blues music, staged in the seaside town of Broadstairs on Kent’s Isle of Thanet. Founded in 2008, the festival has become a cornerstone of the UK blues calendar, drawing thousands of enthusiasts to its intimate venues and lively streets.

What sets the Blues Bash apart is its free‑entry ethos. With most gigs taking place in Broadstairs’ pubs, bars, and cafés, audiences can wander from venue to venue, soaking up a wide range of blues styles — from raw electric guitar riffs and harmonica‑driven grooves to soulful acoustic sets. The only ticketed event is the Saturday night headline show at the Pavilion, which has hosted legendary performers including Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, and Nine Below Zero.

Now entering its eighteenth year in 2026, the festival spans five days each February, transforming Broadstairs into a hub of music and community spirit. More than 100 bands perform across 20+ venues, creating a pub‑crawl atmosphere that blends local talent with nationally recognized acts.

Beyond the music, the Blues Bash reflects Broadstairs’ character as a Victorian seaside town. Its clifftop promenades, harbour views, and historic pubs provide a unique backdrop for the festival, making it as much about place as performance. The event is run on a not‑for‑profit basis, relying on volunteers, sponsors, and the passion of the community to keep it thriving.
